James L. Smith is a founding member of Kamykowski, Gavin & Smith, P.C. James has successfully represented clients in a variety of complex litigation matters in both state and federal courts. His practice areas include the defense of medical malpractice claims directed at physicians, nurses, hospitals, and other allied health care professionals; defense of product liability claims including those directed at orthotic and prosthetic device manufacturers; general personal injury defense; and defending large and small companies that face claims involving asbestos, talc, and silica exposure.

James has also represented clients in federal criminal matters, including those involving healthcare fraud and deprivation of constitutional rights by law enforcement officers. He has handled civil trials and administrative cases in numerous jurisdictions throughout Missouri and has appeared before the appellate courts in multiple jurisdictions. James has assisted with federal criminal trials in the Eastern District of Missouri and Southern District of Illinois. James has also represented multiple physicians before the Missouri State Board of Healing Arts.
