Mariel Taylor is a partner with Kamykowski, Gavin & Smith, P.C., having joined the firm in 2015. Mariel has extensive experience in the field of health care litigation in both Missouri and Illinois, with particular emphasis on claims of medical malpractice. She regularly guides hospitals, nursing homes, physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals through all aspects of the litigation process, including initial case investigation, motion practice, depositions, expert discovery, mediations, trials, and appeals.
Mariel successfully defends complicated medical malpractice claims by making it a priority to understand the context and clinical aspects of the claim at issue. She is constantly striving to expand her knowledge of all aspects of the health care industry by staying up to date on the latest issues impacting the medical profession, such as the impact of the transition to electronic medical records on liability claims. She is heavily involved in the American Bar Association’s Medicine & Law Committee, and has even completed a “mini medical school” educational program at Washington University in St. Louis.
Mariel has helped obtain defense verdicts in medical malpractice trials and has successfully resolved numerous cases on behalf of health care providers. Mariel’s litigation experience also includes the defense of traumatic personal injury claims, including trucking and transportation-related accidents, as well as product liability and premises liability matters.
In addition to her litigation work, Mariel also assists individual providers, physician practices, and other health care entities with non-litigation matters, such as employment contracts, medical staff credentialing, HIPAA compliance, and other legal issues relating to the health care field.
